| Stream Design Studio’s primary role is to create and check print ready files are all present, valid, correctly formatted, imposed and of the desired type, thus delivering efficient digital media for specific printing processes. Correct pre-flighting helps reduce the likelihood of production problems that cause print production delays. Typically, customers, agencies and studios provide application-specific files using Adobe InDesign or QuarkXPress. Pre-fighting verifies the presence of necessary data to meet the production requirements for output to the Raster Image Processor ‘RIP’ at the printer. The pre-flight process checks for: - Images and graphics embedded by the agency/studio have been provided and are available to the application
- Fonts are accessible to the system, compatible and are not corrupt
- Image files are of the correct colour format, resolution and not corrupt
- Required colour profiles are included
- Page layout document size, margins, bleeds, marks and page information all fit within the constraints of the output device and match the specifications
- The correct colour separations or ink plates are being output
Other, more advanced pre-flight steps might also include:
- Removing non-printing data, such as non-printing objects, hidden objects, objects outside the printable area and objects on layers below
- Flattening transparent objects into a single opaque object
- Converting fonts to paths
- Gathering embedded images and graphic files to one location
- Arranging imposition
Additionally, and critical to the prepress process, we recommend and perform high end retouching prior to print to ensure the finished product is exactly as you want it. |
